If Monk went to Glasgow Rangers… could these Leeds United players follow?

The Leeds United boss has been linked with the Rangers post after Mark Warburton’s acrimonious departure from Ibrox.

Even the most ardent of Rangers supporter will admit it would be a tough ask to lure Garry Monk from Leeds United.

Monk has been linked with the Ibrox post following Mark Warburton’s acrimonious departure a week ago, but with Leeds marching on towards a top-six finish in this season’s Championship, it would appear the 37-year-old is going nowhere in a hurry.

But in the unlikely event Monk was to take the reins at Rangers – his current deal expires in June let’s not forget – could any of the following players go with him?

Rob Green

Although a steady performer this season, Green’s deal is also up at the end of the campaign and Leeds may look to upgrade between the sticks. A fresh challenge in Scotland could appeal if offered, although Wes Foderingham may take some shifting.

Lewie Coyle

With Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi currently ahead of the right-back at Elland Road, Coyle could perhaps benefit from a spell on loan next season. And Rangers may be keen if James Tavernier’s performances don’t improve.

Matt Grimes

Signed by Monk at both Swansea City and Leeds, Grimes is clearly highly rated by his boss. Given his lack of action this term you perhaps wouldn’t know it, although that’s largely down to Leeds’ wealth of options in central midfield. With Jon Toral and Emerson Hyndman only on loan, Rangers could have a vacancy this summer.

Stuart Dallas

This would be a huge coup for Rangers, with Dallas one of Leeds’ regulars this season. Were the Whites to go up, however, the winger’s exit could be on the cards (although Monk’s almost certainly wouldn’t). And Rangers, who the Ulsterman is said to support, may be high on his agenda.

Souleymane Doukara

The Senegalese forward has enjoyed an unlikely resurgence under Monk, but may find himself expendable as Leeds progress. His contract expires in June, which would certainly make things easier for Rangers.

Marcus Antonsson

Although Antonsson’s Leeds move hasn’t quite gone to plan, the Swedish striker would perhaps fare better north of the border. Rangers could lose Kenny Miller at the end of his contract this summer and the £2 million man would be a good replacement on paper.
