If McClaren doesn't succeed at Derby he may find his career irreparable

With Steve McClaren making a solid start to his second tenure at Derby County, the pressure is on for him to succeed.

It’s certainly been an odd career for Steve McClaren. His successes and failures have been magnified in the media for years, with many laughing at his inabilities whilst also choosing to ignore the times when he makes a real impact. Nonetheless, the 55-year-old has made a solid start to life back at the iPro Stadium and their push for the top six appears to be back on.

However, there is a certain extra degree of pressure surrounding McClaren this time around. With his shining accomplishments at Middlesbrough and FC Twente now well in the past, the immediate future needs to see him lead the Rams back into the Premier League in order to save his reputation.

Following the way in which the former England boss departed the club last time round, it seems unthinkable that fans would accept a similar ending. McClaren has been in the game for a long time now, and you would have to wonder how many other big sides would take a chance on him if things go badly at Derby.

Whilst this may be last chance saloon for the guy, it’s also a huge opportunity to prove his many, many doubters wrong. He is certainly facing a tough task, but he has the quality and players necessary to succeed.
