If Manchester United cast Luke Shaw aside, Liverpool should make their move

The Manchester United defender is perfect for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

With Luke Shaw continuing to struggle for minutes at Manchester United this season, it would be no surprise if he moved on in the summer.

United manager Jose Mourinho may be pushing the young left-back to get back to his best out on the training field, but how long will Shaw be willing to remain in the shadows?

Much will depend on pre-season and if Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian all remain at Old Trafford beyond the summer. But assuming things continue to look bleak for the 21-year-old a move to Liverpool could offer his best chance to stay at the top.

Many of the Premier League big boys are well stocked when it comes to full-backs, but the same cannot be said of Liverpool who have been playing James Milner out of position, albeit to great effect.

That is not a long-term solution and, with the jury out on Alberto Moreno, Shaw could be the perfect player for a Liverpool side looking to kick on and build around a promising English core.

At his best, Shaw is one of the best left-backs in Europe; the fact that he has fallen so far is due in no small part to the horror injury he suffered back in 2015 and the psychological damage that appears to have inflicted on his buccaneering style.

He will not come cheap, and he may not come at all, but if United make the mistake of casting him aside, Liverpool should snap him up and get him playing to his full potential.

Moves between United and Liverpool are few and far between but if Shaw does swap Old Trafford for Anfield, Jurgen Klopp would be the one laughing, especially if he can get him for considerably less than the £27million paid to Southampton in 2014 (as reported by the BBC).
