Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that they cannot beat Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United to a UEFA Champions League place in the Premier League this season.

Klopp made the comments on BBC MOTD about Manchester United and Newcastle after his Liverpool side beat Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in the league on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds are now fifth in the standings with 56 points from 33 matches.

Manchester United are fourth with 63 points from 32 matches, two points behind Newcastle United, who are currently third and have played 33 games.

Tottenham are now down in sixth with 54 points from 34 games.

Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool’s top-four chances vs Manchester United and Newcastle United

Klopp said when asked if Liverpool could qualify for the UEFA Champions League: “Of course not. If United and Newcastle wins all the games then how can we get there?

“If they start losing them we are close. Until then we have to win football games to qualify for Europe at all.”

HITC Verdict: Don’t give up

In our view, Liverpool should not give up on knocking either Manchester United or Newcastle United out of the Premier League top four.

Yes, it does not look very likely now, but it is still mathematically possible.

We believe that Liverpool should not give up on their UEFA Champions League chances just yet.

The Reds are in good form now, having won their last four Premier League games.

While Newcastle and Manchester United are also doing well, you just never what could happen in final weeks of the season.
