Tottenham target Jurrien Timber has been speaking to Helden Magazine about his future, and he made an interesting claim about Manchester City.
What’s the story?
Well, it was 90min who revealed that Spurs are keen to sign the 20-year-old, who already has six caps for the Netherlands.
However, it seems Timber would be more interested in a move to Manchester City, judging by his comments.
As quoted by Voetbal, the Dutch wonderkid said: “I like playing for trophies, that’s why I will choose Manchester City instead of Barcelona today. I plan to stay here for a while. But if Manchester City call me, what should I do?”
It seems Timber is happy to continue his development in Amsterdam for now, but it’s very intriguing to hear him speak so openly about leaving.
So far this season, the centre-back has made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.
Timber may only be 20 years of age, but he’s already a valued first-team member who has stepped into Matthijs de Ligt’s shoes impressively.
Tottenham must progress to reach Manchester City
As Timber makes clear, he wants to challenge for trophies, now.
It doesn’t sound as if he’d be willing to join a side like Tottenham in their current position, where it may take two or three years until silverware is a realistic possibility.
In Manchester City’s case, they tend to win silverware every year, and are on course to lift another Premier League title.
So, unless Antonio Conte helps Spurs progress into a team capable of winning things, it feels as if Timber wouldn’t go anywhere near N17, which is a shame as he’s a potential superstar.
