According to TyC in Argentina, Marcelo Gallardo has some reservations about the Leeds United job after he was approached by the Whites.
One thing that Gallardo isn’t too sure about is the fact that he doesn’t speak English, so the idea of managing in the Premier League is rather daunting.
However, as Leeds fans will know better than anyone, having a manager who doesn’t speak English isn’t necessarily an issue.
Marcelo Bielsa was, of course, Leeds’ head coach for a number of years and he didn’t take a single press conference in English, using a translator during his entire time in West Yorkshire.
Gallardo could take the same approach if he came to Leeds, and, in our view, he would be wise to bring back Bielsa’s old interpreter – Andres Clavijo.
Clavijo is, first and foremost, the right man for the job. He’s performed this exact role for this exact club before, but, perhaps more importantly, this appointment would put Gallardo in the good books of the fans and the players straight away.
While he was only an interpretor, Clavijo was an incredibly popular figure at Elland Road. To this day fans speak fondly about him online and call for his return, while Patrick Bamford has previously told stories of how he had a good relationship with the squad.
This is such an easy win for Leeds if they do decide to appoint Gallardo. It gives the club an exciting new manager, while also providing a bit of a boost in morale amongst the fanbase with Clavijo’s return.
Of course, we’re yet to figure out who Leeds’ next manager will be, but if the Yorkshire club do indeed decide that Gallardo is their best bet, they should also go and bring Clavijo back as his interpretor as he gets to grips with his new surroundings.
