Manchester City have dropped their interest in Benjamin Mendy in favour of Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand, so should Liverpool look to sign the Monaco man?

According to Sky Sports, Manchester City are closing in on a deal to sign Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand after switching their attention from Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy.
City could not come to an agreement with the Ligue 1 champions over Mendy, who they value at £40m, and are instead looking to secure a move for Bertrand.

Pep Guardiola is searching for a new left-back after telling Gael Clichy he will leave the Etihad Stadium on a free transfer this summer.
Another club searching for recruitment on the left side of defence is Liverpool, who themselves were linked with a move for Bertrand by the Mirror but will now seemingly have to look elsewhere.
With Alberto Moreno not deemed good enough by manager Juergen Klopp in 2016/17 and James Milner having to fill in at left-back as a result, recruitment in the position is a must.

They too were rumoured to be interested in Mendy by the Express and with the Citizens now out of the equation, should Klopp go all out to sign the 22-year-old?
The full-back has certainly impressed over the last 12 months for Champions League semi-finalists Monaco and although the asking price is high, the France international’s age suggests he could improve even further in the future.
Also, Mendy’s stamina and ability to play in Les Rouges et Blancs’ high intensity style suggests he could be the perfect fit for Klopp’s gegenpressing philosophy at Anfield.
