It is being reported this morning that Liverpool are keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama this summer. The Daily Mail report that he is being considered as a potential replacement for Emre Can, who looks increasingly likely to be leaving the club on a free transfer in the summer.

The Kenyan has been in and out of the Tottenham team this season and that has led to Liverpool considering an approach for the player.

For Tottenham, it is a deal they might want to consider, but only if they can convince Liverpool to send Danny Ings the other way in exchange.

Spurs are still a one-striker team at present, with Fernando Llorente coming up short in his attempt to be a suitable back-up to Harry Kane.

Next season it is a problem they need to solve and Ings would be a perfect solution. It is well-known that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is a fan of the player. When he was at Burnley Spurs tried to sign him, with Sky Sports even reporting a £12 million bid was once made for the player.

He is undoubtedly a Poch player. A tireless worker who creates space for his team-mates as well as himself he could be a brilliant replacement for Kane when needed and the pair would also work well as a strikeforce.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the striker, but he has had his injury troubles and the Reds have plenty of options in the striking department.

If it means getting Wanyama, surely Liverpool would have to consider Ings as expendable if Tottenham make it clear that’s who they want.

Losing the Kenyan would be a blow to Tottenham, but if it means Ings coming in the opposite direction, it could be a transfer masterstroke.
