Former Liverpool star Peter Crouch has suggested that the Reds should sign a new striker in the future. With the pundit naming Erling Haaland as a suggestion.

Writing in the Daily Mail, the ex-England international claimed that Liverpool could do with a new man to lead the line in the future. With Roberto Firmino’s time with the club once again coming into question.

The Brazilian international is currently out injured with a hamstring problem, with Diogo Jota filling in for Firmino. And the Portuguese attacker has, once again, impressed for the Reds when called upon.

The former Wolves star scored a brace over the weekend against Southampton. With Jota bagging against Arsenal the previous weekend, as well.

Whilst Jota has shone for Liverpool, Crouch has suggested that the Reds should one day go in for a striker who can command the frontline.

The former Anfield hero wrote: “If Liverpool had signed Erling Haaland then they would have been everybody’s favourites at the start of the season. But they didn’t, so they weren’t,” With Crouch adding later: “I’d love them to go and sign a frontline striker in the future.”

Indeed, a change of striker role in the attack has long been debated by pundits and supporters. And it appears that Crouch is eager for this direction in the future given Firmino’s current situation for Liverpool and Jota’s ability to play all across the attack.

Firmino’s role with Liverpool in their UEFA Champions League and Premier League title-winning runs was key to the Reds’ success. Yet Crouch’s suggestion that Klopp should go for a more traditional striker is something that should be taken on board.

After all, the Brazilian has seen his influence on the pitch wade as Jota has asserted his presence. And whilst it will take an incredible player to shift the paradigm of Liverpool’s attack, it is something that could take them to the next level.

Indeed, a player of Haaland’s ilk would be a sensational addition to the Liverpool attack. But whilst this could happen in the future, Klopp’s current situation is perfect for the time being.
