Sunderland should approach Leeds United’s Garry Monk if David Moyes leaves in the summer.

David Moyes’s future at Sunderland is reportedly wrapped up in uncertainty. According to Sky Sports, Moyes has met with Black Cats owner Ellis Short and chief executive Martin Bain, and the manager himself has been quoted as saying by BBC Sport that he has yet to decide on his future.

If Moyes does decide to leave in the summer, then Sunderland should make an approach for Garry Monk. Monk is in charge of Leeds United at the moment, but the former Swansea City manager’s current contract with the Whites runs out at the end of the season.

If Monk is not handed a new deal, as suggested in a recent report in The Sun, then Sunderland should try to convince him to switch to the Stadium of Light.

The Englishman may have failed to guide Leeds to the playoffs this season, but there can be no doubt that he has done a wonderful job at Elland Road.

For the first time in years, the Whites had a realistic chance of finishing in the playoffs, and this is Monk’s first season in the Championship. Imagine what he can do in 2017-18 if backed in the summer transfer window?

If Leeds decide not to hand Monk a new contract, then Sunderland should swoop in and make him their new manager if Moyes decides to leave.
