Josh Scowen impressed in his debut season at Queens Park Rangers and the midfielder will be looking to do so once again under Steve McClaren.

Josh Scowen of Queens Park Rangers looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers at Villa Park on March 13, 2018 in Birmingham, England.

Josh Scowen is widely considered as Queens Park Rangers’ best signing from last season after the central midfielder impressed the R’s faithful with his consistent performances and battling displays.

The free signing from then Championship rivals Barnsley played his way straight into Ian Holloway’s side and made 43 appearances over the course of the season; winning over the R’s fans in the process.

With Steve McClaren now in charge at Loftus Road, Scowen knows he will need to impress the former Derby boss and will want to add a new dimension to his game. The 25-year-old only notched once throughout the 2017/18 campaign and concedes he wants to add more goals to his name.

Speaking to QPR’s official site, Scowen explained: “I’m doing my best to impress, and hopefully I can have a season like I had last year.

“I’d like to add more goals to my game. I spoke to the gaffer and he knows that I’m originally a ‘number eight’.

“Hopefully, if I get the chance to play in that role, I can score more goals.”

McClaren does have a strong unit in the middle of the park with a mix of flair, youth and experienced players at his disposal, and Scowen can really turn it up a notch and cement his place under the former England manager.

The former Wycombe man has never scored more than four goals throughout a league campaign, but the opportunity to potentially progress under McClaren is one that should excite Scowen.

Whatever happens in the new season, Scowen will be looking to demonstrate his class and, if he can score a few more goals from midfield, he wil prove a valuable asset to McClaren and QPR.
