Jose Enrique says Liverpool possibly securing the transfer of Benfica and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez would be a ‘top signing’, as he posted on Instagram.

The January transfer window is around the corner and Jurgen Klopp would have had many discussions during the World Cup break regarding who he wants at the club during the January transfer window.

Back in the summer, he made a late U-turn by bringing in a midfielder after the club’s poor start to the Premier League season.

Well, fast forward to the present and those problems are still prevalent, as the man they brought in – Arthur Melo – has only played 13 minutes of Champions League football.

The obvious target will be a midfielder – or a few – and one name that is being sounded out is that of Argentina’s thriving World Cup star, Enzo Fernandez.

Former Liverpool left-back Enrique was reacting to the rumours regarding the attack-minded midfielder, as he posted this following message in the comments section of Liverpool Goals’ IG post.

“Top signing, if it’s true,” said Enrique.

MORE THAN ONE MIDFIELDER NEEDED

The issue Liverpool have is that they are at risk of missing out on Champions League football given their own form, but most importantly, of others.

Arsenal, who finished fifth last season, are sitting top of the tree heading into Christmas, whilst Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are also occupying that golden top-four ticket.

If the Reds only bring in one midfielder in January, then by the time the summer comes along, they might not be able to attract who they want if they fail to secure Champions League football.
