‘If it was up to me’: Thierry Henry says 57-year-old should have a statue at the Emirates

Speaking on the UMM YouTube channel, Thierry Henry has claimed that he wants to see Ian Wright given a statue at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have a number of statues outside of the ground, with Henry being one of those, but the Frenchman believes that there is a glaring omission in the shape of Wright.

Henry was asked if he wanted to see an Arsene Wenger statue next to his at the Arsenal stadium, and he surprisingly said that Ian Wright was the man he wanted to see cast in bronze alongside himself.

“No, listen, actually if it was up to me Wrighty would have one, everyone would have one. You know, everyone that has marked the history of the club would just have statues around the stadium. They should have one, so I can only agree with that assumption,” Henry said.

Deserves it

Arsenal have so many legends throughout their history, but it’s hard to argue against Wright being one of the greatest.

The 57-year-old is undoubtedly one of the club’s greatest ever servants.

Before Henry took his record, Wright was the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, and while we love Dennis Bergkamp as much as anyone, there’s a debate to be had about whether or not Wright had a greater impact than the Dutchman at Arsenal.

If Bergkamp has a statue, then Wright certainly deserves one.

However, we have to agree with the channel’s presenter in lobbying for Wenger to get a statue before anyone else, there may not be a single more important figure in Arsenal history than the French manager.
