Speaking on the All to Play For Podcast, Joe Cole has been discussing Emi Martinez after his incredible performances at the World Cup.
The Aston Villa ace propelled himself to superstardom with his heroics in Qatar, and, inevitably, there have now been rumours about the Argentine joining one of Europe’s elite clubs.
Tottenham Hotspur are amongst the sides that have been linked in recent days, but Cole has now urged his former side, Chelsea, to go out and sign Martinez.

Cole wants Martinez at Chelsea
The pundit urged the Blues to land the Aston Villa star.
“Martinez for me. I watch him. He didn’t have that many shots to face because they were so good in front of him, but you know what he is good at? Crossing, commanding and you know he’s connected to his back four. In the big moments he delivered,” Cole said.
“If I’m Chelsea I am tabling a bid for him now. I think he was outstanding.”
Need a goalkeeper
One has to imagine that Chelsea will be targeting more than one signing in January, and a goalkeeper could be one of them.
Edouard Mendy has been out of form for a while, while Kepa Arrizabalaga is wildly inconsistent and always has been.
Martinez has proven his value at Premier League level, while his showings at the World Cup have shown that he can easily handle the pressure of the biggest games.
Martinez looks like he’s made for a club that is competing for titles, and Chelsea historically are always in and around the hunt for silverware every single season.
The Blues would be wise to go out and get Martinez, but convincing Aston Villa to sell is another matter entirely.
