Tim Sherwood has claimed that Antonio Conte has ‘noted’ Tottenham Hotspur fans expressing their grumblings towards their style of play.
After Spurs beat Everton 2-0 on Saturday, Conte came out and stated how the crowd should ‘enjoy’ that win and performance, but Sherwood thinks the Italian shouldn’t bother.
Tottenham have only lost two matches all season, winning galore at home, close to reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League and they are sitting third in the league.
Whilst Arsenal do it pretty across north London, their rivals are a lot more efficient, although still racking up a high volume of goals.
Whilst Conte is a defensive-minded coach on paper, as he proved when he brought Yves Bissouma on for Richarlison against Everton, his team still get bodies forward and score for fun.
Nonetheless, Sherwood highlighted the Spurs fans, at times, wanting to see some more flair and how Conte is hearing what is being said, as he told Premier League Productions (15/10/22 at 7:45 pm).
“He referenced the crowd and that they would enjoy that performance,” said Sherwood. “That tells me that he’s taking note. He’s listening to the noise.
“Not that he’s trying to change the way the team plays but he’s trying to convince everyone that this is quite entertaining.
“But if I was Antonio Conte, then I wouldn’t bother about wasting my energy on that. I would just continue to win and that will keep everyone happy.”
THAT ALL-IMPORTANT TROPHY
If Spurs end the season with a trophy, then their fans won’t care how they get over that line, as long as they get over that line.
Under Mauricio Pochettino, they played the pretty stuff, continually secured Champions League football, and got to a final, but in the end, there were zero winners’ medals to their name.
So, perhaps doing things in a more ugly fashion might be the answer and, at the end of the day, Conte is proven in that department.
Even Jose Mourinho was heading down that road, until Daniel Levy decided to sack him one week before the League Cup final.
