Michael Owen interviewed Steven Gerrard after Liverpool’s victory at Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool made it seven wins in a row under Jurgen Klopp by edging out Gerrard’s outfit 1-0 on Merseyside.

All of the pre-match talk centered around the 41-year-old’s return to Anfield, the arena where he earned iconic status throughout a trophy-laden playing career with the Reds.

But it wasn’t a happy return for Gerrard, whose Aston Villa troops lost narrowly.

Throughout the game, Liverpool supporters seranaded their legendary midfielder.

Speaking on Optus Sport, Owen, a former Manchester United striker, admitted to Gerrard that he ‘hated’ going back to Anfield, where he also began his career.

And despite the defeat, Gerrard lost none of his sense of humour, responding: “If I played for Man U I’d hate coming back as well.”

Laughter erupted from the studio and Owen can be heard cackling at Gerrard’s blunt put-down.

It was a razor-sharp response by Gerrard, but his Aston Villa team were anything but against Liverpool.

Despite the scoreline, the Reds were a million miles above Gerrard’s side, with the Liverpudlian admitting afterwards that he might’ve set up to be a tad too defensive.

Still, he has won three out of his first five games since quitting Rangers to join the Villans, losing only to Manchester City and now the Merseysiders which, honestly, isn’t shameful by any means.
