John Ruddy has been speaking to the Express & Star about his future at Wolves, with his contract set to expire in June.

What’s the story?

Well, the £35,000-a-week man doesn’t believe many people would miss him if he ended up leaving Molineux this summer.

Speaking to the Express & Star, Ruddy said: “At the end of the day, if I left Wolves I don’t think I’ll be missed that much because we have people who are ready to step up. I don’t play as much as I would like and I still feel that I have a lot to offer on the pitch.”

Now, that is sad to hear from the England international.

However, from the perspective of playing time, it’s probably true.

Jose Sa has done a tremendous job of replacing Rui Patricio, keeping 11 clean sheets in 32 appearances, conceding just 28 goals along the way.

The 29-year-old even has an assist to his name, which came in a 1-0 win over Southampton back in September.

Unfortunately, Sa’s efforts have kept Ruddy out of the spotlight, and the 35-year-old hasn’t played a single second of Premier League football this term.

John Ruddy should’ve left Wolves ages ago

In our view, Ruddy is too good to be used as a mere backup option.

Let’s not forget Chelsea wanted to sign the St Ives-born glovesman back in 2013, after he made a name for himself in England’s top-flight with Norwich (Guardian).

It goes without saying that you also don’t earn a cap for England if you’re not a brilliant player.

Even now, at the age of 35, Ruddy has a lot to offer, and we feel he should’ve taken it upon himself to force a move away from Wolves ages ago.

Hopefully, if Ruddy does depart the Midlands this summer, he can become the outright No.1 somewhere else – it’s the least he deserves.
