Chris Sutton has claimed that he can see Steven Gerrard leaving Rangers for Aston Villa ‘if he was offered the job’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
After Aston Villa’s 4-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday – their fourth defeat on the bounce – a Villa fan expressed his frustration towards the Villa boss and wants the Rangers man to replace him.
Dean Smith’s side are sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table and have conceded ten goals in three matches.
As a result, the Villa fans shared that he would like to see Smith replaced in the Villa dugout for someone like Gerrard.
And ex-Celtic man Sutton shared his honest thoughts on those claims, whilst Robbie Savage questioned why he would take the Villa Park gig if it became available.
“Why would Steven Gerrard leave Rangers for Villa?” asked Savage. “Are Villa a bigger club than Rangers?”
Sutton responded: “Steven Gerrard would take the Rangers job. If he was offered the job. I think he would.”

There is no doubt that there is now serious pressure on Smith at Villa, but that doesn’t mean he will be sacked any time soon.
Given what he has done for the club, then he will probably be provided with that extra time.
Whilst Gerrard is thriving at Ibrox, after winning the Premiership title last season, many feel he will come back to the Premier League one day.
Many have pointed towards him becoming Liverpool manager one day, but there is a long way to go until that happens.
But if a team, outside of those challenging for the title, whoever they may be, come knocking for Gerrard, then it will be interesting to see how he reacts.
