Jose Enrique has posted on Instagram that he is ‘glad’ Nat Phillips stayed at Liverpool during the January transfer window, after Ibrahima Konate’s injury.
Jurgen Klopp’s side only made one signing during the winter transfer window – Cody Gakpo – but there was talk of Phillips possibly heading for the exit door in order to secure some much-needed game time.
But whilst Liverpool fans watched on as the rest of the Premier League spent like crazy on deadline day, they received the bad news that Konate has picked up another injury.

That forced the Merseyside club to change tact and tell Phillips, 25, that he can’t leave.
The Reds have had their fair share of injuries this season and they have been there before when their centre-backs have been cleared out.
But when Phillips did stay, former left-back Enrique posted the following message in the comments section of Liverpool Goals IG post.
“If he really wanted to go, then I am sure that he would have gone by talking to the club and Klopp,” said Enrique. “But in the end, I am glad he stayed and more with the news of Konate’s injury.”
WHAT NEXT FOR PHILLIPS?
The hard-hitting centre-back has a contract at Anfield that runs until 2025, but he does need to leave in order to progress his career.
With Konate joining Virgil van Dijk on the sidelines, it’s understandable why the club kept him on board now.
At the end of the day, the team is already all over the shop from a defensive aspect, but come the summer, Phillips should be part of the clearout of the currently ninth-placed Premier League club.
