‘If he played for’: Foster says ace would’ve made England squad if he was at Newcastle or Spurs

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ben Foster has been discussing England’s World Cup squad and James Ward-Prowse.

The Southampton midfielder missed out on Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad, and many feel as though that is a bit of a controversial choice.

Ward-Prowse is undoubtedly one of the most talented midfield players in the Premier League, but sadly, he’s not been picked for the Three Lions this time around.

According to Foster, Ward-Prowse would’ve been on the plane if he played for one of the Premier League’s big clubs with Tottenham and Newcastle listed as examples.

Ward-Prowse could’ve gone

Foster spoke about Ward-Prowe’s omission.

“Ward-Prowse is out isn’t he the poor guy. Oh mate,” Foster said.

“I have a question for you Ben, if James Ward-Prowse played for Newcastle, Spurs, Man United or Man City would he be in the squad?” Foster’s co-host asked.

“Yeah I think he would, I think if he played for one of them he would be in there ahead of Conor Gallagher. The fact he is playing for Southampton who are struggling a bit this season is the reason he’s not gone to the World Cup which is a shame for him,” Foster said.

Le Tissier 2.0

Sadly, this is all too reminiscent of another Southampton legend’s international career – Matt Le Tissier.

Le God as he is known on the south coast received just a handful of England caps during his career, and that was because he was loyal to a fault to Southampton.

He didn’t spread his wings and show that he was capable of shining for a top club, and his England hopes suffered for it.

The same thing is happening to Ward-Prowse right now, and perhaps he needs to join a team like Newcastle or Tottenham in order to boost his international hopes.
