Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Chris Sutton has been discussing Harry Kane.
Kane put in yet another fantastic showing against Newcastle over the weekend, and while we were all marvelling over the striker, Sutton couldn’t help but point out one small flaw.
Sutton was saying a lot of good things about Kane, but he claims that he is lacking one thing – pace.
What’s been said?
Sutton gave his verdict on Kane.
“Harry Kane is playing to his strengths, he’s always been that all-rounder like Micah says, he’s able to drop deep, and play that good weight of pass. That’s his strength. Kane, if he lacks anything, he lacks real pace. He’s so so effective, and Spurs have Son who will make those runs in behind,” Sutton said.
“Kane will peel away and make those diagonal runs, there aren’t many top number 10s and Kane is right up there in terms of weight of pass, vision and awareness, and he’s a phenomenal goalscorer and a great penalty taker.”

Missing piece
Sutton is right about Kane, the one thing he does lack is lightning pace.
Of course, you can still be one of the best players in the world without being absolutely rapid – just look at Kane’s record over the years.
However, the greatest footballers of all time have all had that extra gear to find, and unfortunately, Kane isn’t blessed with that type of speed.
If Kane was as quick as a player like Mohamed Salah or Erling Haaland, he would be truly unstoppable.
