Writing in his Team of the Week column for BBC Sport, Garth Crooks has claimed that Fabian Schar could make the Premier League Team of the Season if he continues to play well.
The Swiss defender has been absolutely brilliant over the past few weeks and he’s actually made Crooks’ Team of the Week twice in a row now.
Crooks has been blown away by the centre-half’s impact, claiming that if he continues to play in this way, he could make his Team of the Season.
What’s been said?
Crooks was full of praise for Schar.
“Last week Fabian Schar was making goals, this week he’s scoring them. It was great movement and a brilliant header and the Magpies are flying,” Crooks wrote.
“It’s the second consecutive time that Schar has made my team of the week and if he keeps on playing like this he might make my team of the season.
“It’s not that long ago Newcastle were in the bottom three and fighting for their lives. I don’t know who is advising the new owners but they have got all the major decisions absolutely spot on since their arrival at St James’ Park. As for Eddie Howe, he must be a candidate for manager of the season.”

Up there with the best
Schar has probably left it a little too late to make the Team of the Season, but Crooks’ point still stands. His current form has been up there with the very best defenders in the Premier League in recent weeks.
He’s been scoring and setting up goals, while the Magpies’ defence has been utterly impenetrable as of late.
Schar has looked quality during spells at Newcastle, and now, with Dan Burn alongside him, he’s back to his best.
