Kevin Hatchard has claimed that Arsenal target, Serge Gnabry, will become ‘available’ for transfer if he doesn’t sign a new contract with Bayern Munich this summer, as he told GameDay.
The Bundesliga expert added that Gnabry, who was on Arsenal’s books as a youngster, is an ‘explosive’ player and Bayern’s priority is for the winger to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena – but as things stand nothing has moved forward.
The 27-year-old has one-year left on his contract and there is talk of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea, being keen to bring him on board.
For the Gunners, it would feel a lot more special if they could sign the versatile forward given that he left them after struggling to meet expectations back in 2016, before exploding into one of the best in the business back in his home country.
Nonetheless, German football expert Hatchard offered an insight into the Gnabry situation and the exciting possibility for Arsenal fans that he could become available this summer.
“He will be available if he doesn’t sign a new contract with the club,” said Hatchard. “Their priority it to get him to sign a new deal. They say ‘they want to keep him’.
“But he has been in German football for a while now. It didn’t work out in the Premier League for him last time out with Arsenal.
“I like him a lot. I think he’s a good player. I think when he is at his best, then he is an explosive player, who scores goals and makes goals.”
GNABRY WOULD BE A STATEMENT SIGNING
Arsenal have already added to their attacking options this summer by bringing in Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City and Fabio Vieira from Porto.
But if the Champions League-chasing side could get a player like Gnabry through their doors, then it would be a statement of intent.
There’s no doubt that the German international is a player worthy of playing at the top level after transforming into one of the best over the past few years.
Plus, it would probably be special for the Arsenal fans to watch Gnabry return to their colours and fulfil the potential many were expecting him to show when he was a youngster.
Either way, Arsenal’s chances of securing a top-four finish next season, or even returning to the Champions League by winning the Europa League, would improve drastically by this possible Gnabry capture.
