Riyad Mahrez has made the 11-player shortlist for the 2021 FIFA Puskas Award. Which will be announced later this year in December.
FIFA announced on their official website that the Manchester City star was one of two players from the club to make the final cut. With City Women’s star Caroline Weir also making the shortlist with a superb goal against Manchester United in the Women’s Super League.
As for Mahrez, the 30-year-old attacker’s goal came on international duty for Algeria, with the City star finishing off an outrage touch and close-control against Zimbabwe with a cool finish.
Indeed, the attacker, who earns a reported £120,000-a-week, has had an excellent year. Mahrez ranked 20th in the Ballon d’Or award, and now the winger is in contention for the Puskas Award.
The former Leicester City star was key to Pep Guardiola’s side winning the Premier League title as well as reaching the UEFA Champions League final. And Mahrez’s efforts have been well recognised by all parties.
With City once again challenging for the title, Mahrez will again play a big role in bringing silverware to the blue half of Manchester this season. And winning the Puskas Award could cap off 2021 in a big way.
City fans predict Mahrez to win Puskas Award

Mahrez faces some tough competition for the award, with Czech Republic star Patrick Schick’s record-breaking goal at Euro 2020 looking like the favourite to scoop the accolade.
However, some City fans on social media are confident that Mahrez can scoop up the Puskas Award. With the attacker’s goal for Algeria a truly stunning effort.
