If Everton want Origi, Klopp should make cheeky swap offer for Lookman

Everton are being linked with a move for Liverpool’s Divock Origi.

Everton may have converted Richarlison into a striker for the time being, but many expect the Toffees to head into the transfer market for a new forward in January.

The winger has offered Marco Silva another option in attack, which has been required with Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin somewhat inconsistent in front of goal and Oumar Niasse is out of favour.

Everton have been linked with a couple of strikers ahead of the January transfer window, and one of the more surprising names in the mix is that of Liverpool’s Divock Origi.

No player has directly made the move across Stanley Park since Abel Xavier in 2002, but ESPN report that Origi may just do that as Everton have registered an interest in landing him.

Deals between the two Merseyside rivals are understandable rare, and even with Liverpool having no use for Origi right now, with the Belgian way down the pecking order, Jurgen Klopp would be wise to initiate talks about a cheeky deal.

Everton forward Ademola Lookman has been struggling for starts since his January 2017 move from Charlton Athletic, but showed real promise out on loan with RB Leipzig last season – and Everton demanded £30million for Lookman over the summer, as reported by The Mirror.

Lookman has been forced to settle for substitute appearances this season, and if Everton want Origi, Liverpool should at least explore the possibility of a part-exchange deal involving Lookman, with the Reds valuing Origi at around £20million.

Lookman’s pace and eye for goal would make him the perfect competition for Sadio Mane on the left flank, whilst he has huge potential to grow into a starter for the Reds, especially with question marks over Mane’s contract situation.

A versatile attacker capable of playing up front or out wide, Lookman has the kind of versatility that would be ideal in Klopp’s front three, and it would also see him reunite with ex-Leipzig teammate Naby Keita.

Lookman would be moving to another situation where first-team football is far from guaranteed, but joining a team in the Champions League and with a Premier League title challenge in their sights means opportunities will arise, and Liverpool should certainly explore a potential part-exchange move if Everton come calling for out-of-favour Origi in January.
