Everton have been linked with the Mexican international.
As reported by Super Deportivo, Everton have made a bid for Hirving Lozano and are allegedly prepared to match PSV Eindhoven’s £42.4million asking price, but what would that mean for Toffees youngster Ademola Lookman?
After all, Lozano is predominantly a left winger, although he can operate on the opposite flank if required, and his arrival would push Lookman further down the pecking order at Goodison Park.
The former Charlton Athletic teenager, who signed for Everton for £11million (BBC) is struggling as it is, managing only seven brief league appearances this time round, finally coming in from the cold after Ronald Koeman’s ill-fated final few months at the club.
Lookman is a supreme talent who should go on to become a great player, but at just 20 he is still years away from his peak. In contrast Lozano has been superb since arriving at PSV Eindhoven last summer, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in just 15 Eredivisie appearances.
Everton are not going to throw that kind of money at a player who will not be playing every single week, which leaves Lookman’s short-term future unclear.
If Lozano arrives, the best thing for the Everton youngster could be a loan spell at a Championship club where he can prove his worth and ensure that next season he finally plays regularly for the Toffees.
The Mexican international is an exciting prospect with a record to back up the hype, but in a few years Lookman could be just as good.
