David Unsworth will get the chance to prove himself again against Crystal Palace, but where do Everton turn in their managerial search if they lose?

David Unsworth will be given another chance to boost his case to be appointed next Everton manager when they travel to bottom-placed Crystal Palace on Saturday (November 18).

According to the Mirror, Unsworth will get the job on a long-term basis should he secure victory at Selhurst Park in the Premier League as the search for a successor to Ronald Koeman rumbles on.

Two favourites for the job were removed from the race this week. First Sam Allardyce told talkSPORT he had pulled out of the running after waiting too long for an official approach, while the Telegraph reported Watford had made it clear Marco Silva would not be moving to Goodison Park after a second failed attempt to sign the Portuguese.

In fact the Hornets are considering reporting the Toffees for the tapping up of Silva should they continue their pursuit, leaving the appointment of a new boss still in the balance more than three weeks after Koeman was sacked.

Chairman Bill Kenwright has backed Unsworth and the ideal scenario for the Merseyside club would be that the 44 year old sees them out to the end of the season, avoiding relegation, and then a more permanent successor can be hired.

Unfortunately, with the side sitting just two points outside the drop zone that is no guarantee and having lost three of his four matches in charge, confidence in the caretaker is hardly at an alltime high.

A loss to the Eagles would surely make the hierarchy move away from appointing Unsworth, but with Allardyce and Silva having already been distanced where do they turn next?
