Everton and Arsenal are reportedly keen on Serie A-based defender Armando Izzo.
Italian based outlet Tuttosport have reported that Everton have joined the race with Arsenal to sign Torino defender Armando Izzo this summer.
The steady 27-year-old defender would add much-needed quality and calmness to whichever team he joins this summer, whether it be Arsenal or Everton.
During the recently concluded campaign, the Gunners finished in the top-six and they’ll have to invest in the summer if they want to maintain that status.
On the other hand, Everton will have ambitions of getting into Europe and potentially breaking into that top-six, with Arsenal being their old self in the transfer market, Manchester United yet to make an impact this summer and Chelsea losing their best player in Eden Hazard, not forgetting that they are in the middle of a transfer ban. It increases the chances of one of those teams slipping outside of the top-six,
Added with that, if Marco Silva’s side were to beat Arsenal to the signing of Izzo then it would further showcase that they can finish above them next season.
That one signing alone won’t make it happen, but given the problems at the Emirates Stadium, off the field and their defensive woes, if one team just outside of the top-six has a seriously good summer then those inside the top-six should fear for their places.
The Toffees boasted a pretty strong home record last term, and when they got going, they played some high-quality attacking football and kept clean sheets to boot.
Signing top-class talents, especially ahead of their rivals, will only add more depth to the squad and, as a result, increase their consistency levels which would make them dangerous for many teams.
