Emerson Royal is an in-demand player and one that’s been linked to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in recent weeks.
But according to Cadena Ser, Villarreal have also thrown their hat in the ring.
The Brazilian right-back is returning to Barcelona this summer after impressing over the past few years with Real Betis.
But Barcelona’s financial issues may result in the Camp Nou club selling some players – and Emerson Royal is among those linked away.
Villarreal’s interest is intriguing and if it’s true, it may mean the Spanish club won’t be signing Spurs star Juan Foyth on a long-term basis.
Foyth has been brilliant under Unai Emery this season but he’s spent much of the campaign at right-back, evident by how excellent his performance against Arsenal in this role last month.
And with Emerson being a right-back, if Villarreal are genuinely keen on him then it suggests pessimism with regards to signing Foyth, an £8 million addition by Mauricio Pochettino in 2017.
The Argentina international didn’t make a senior appearance during the second half of last season, with his last game for the North Londoners coming back in 2019.
But Daniel Levy will have certainly known about his form in Spain and if Villarreal are looking for alternative right-backs, it’s probably because the Tottenham chairman wants to keep him at the club.
And going by his showing against the Gunners in the Europa League, who can blame him?
