Glasgow Rangers have reportedly made Derek McInnes their number one target, but the Ibrox side are yet to make a move.
Yet one week on, and McInnes has confirmed to Sky Sports that he has received no approach from the Scottish Premiership side and has insisted that he is fully focused on the job that he is doing at Aberdeen.
Rangers fans therefore, should arguably be scratching their head right now wondering why the Gers are not moving quicker, as it could surely be argued that the longer they leave it to make the move, the less likely McInnes will be to leave the Dons.
If Rangers sacked Caixinha and made an almost immediate approach for McInnes, it would be clear to the former Gers player that he was the undisputed number one target, and with that would surely come an enormous amount of faith and backing that may prove beneficial during the coming years if he took the job.
With Aberdeen established as Celtic’s closest rivals in the top flight over the last few years, McInnes may feel that he needs that full backing if he is to turn his back on the Dons and try and turn Rangers into the heavyweights they were before their dramatic plight.
And the longer the Gers leave making an approach, the more McInnes can question whether they have their doubts as to whether he definitely is the right man to turn their fortunes around – and whether that apparent hesitation could result in him not being given the full backing and resources he may need at Ibrox.
It is surely going to be a tall order to convince McInnes that swapping his fantastic situation at Aberdeen for Rangers is in his best interests – of course, it has the potential to be – and taking more than a week to follow up on their initial interest is surely not helping their chances of convincing him to move.
