Celtic are reeling after their Champions League exit on Tuesday night, but it may just spark the Bhoys into life in terms of additions to Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

The Bhoys were beaten 2-1 by AEK Athens on Tuesday, meaning they have crashed out of the qualifying round with a 3-2 aggregate defeat after two disappointing displays.

With a 1-0 defeat to Hearts sandwiched in between those AEK losses, Celtic need a boost, and Rodgers is desperate for additions to his squad.

It may not be an addition with an instant impact in mind, but Celtic have been looking at winger Elvis Azah this year, and may need to move quickly to secure him.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this year that Celtic had taken winger Azah on trial, and he scored once and set up another goal in a 4-1 win for the Bhoys’ youth team against Partick Thistle.

Now, the Mail report that Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham United are among the clubs interested in landing Azah, meaning Celtic will have to move quickly to land him.

The 17-year-old has been waiting for Irish citizenship having been born in Ghana, but now he has that, he can move to Britain and join a big club – but Celtic must move now to land him.

Having already seen him in action during his trial spell, Celtic know what Azah is capable of, and they should be able to offer a clearer path to the first team than those Premier League sides.

A talented youngster like Azah may not heal Celtic’s wounds immediately, but he could be a star of the future – and beating major Premier League clubs to his signature would be a timely boost for Celtic, but they must move now given their head start following his trial earlier this year.
