Arsenal are closely watching Hoffenheim midfielder Kerem Demirbay and could sign him this summer for around £20m, reports the Evening Standard.

Liverpool are also interested in Demirbay, who was instrumental in a deeplying playmaker role last season when his side finished fourth in the Bundesliga.

The Gunners’ head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, knows the Germany international well having previously worked for Borussia Dortmund and views the 24-year-old as a good replacement for Jack Wilshere or Aaron Ramsey – who are both linked with exits from the Emirates Stadium.

The 26-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of this term, was linked with a switch to Merseyside by the Mirror earlier this month.

Wilshere has been offered a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, but it will see his wages cut from £110,000-a-week to £90,000-a-week and as a result he is reluctant to sign it – meaning a summer exit is looking increasingly likely.
