Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Youri Tielemans’ situation as a potential transfer looms this summer.

Tielemans has been the subject of so much speculation this summer, but here we are in mid-July and no move has materialised for the Belgian.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tielemans will 100 per cent be leaving Leicester this summer, and now, it’s being reported that Arsenal will sign the midfielder if they put a bid in.

Indeed, Jacobs says that the player would join Arsenal if the Gunners put a bid in, but the London club are stalling on making an offer as Mikel Arteta wants to see what he’s got in pre-season.

What’s been said?

Jacobs shared what he knows about Tielemans.

“I think the Tielemans situation is in Arsenal’s hands, if Arsenal bid, Arsenal get Tielemans, I’ve said that consistently. He’s sold on an Arsenal move, he’s agreed terms, he’s been talking with Arsenal for the best part of a year,” Jacobs said.

“So Arsenal are waiting, possibly because Arteta wants to see what he’s got in pre-season, and he knows Tielemans will say yes if Arsenal come in, and the other factor is that they’ve also brought in Fabio Vieira.”

Chances

Arteta is going to weigh up what he has in pre-season before he makes a move for Tielemans, and this represents a real chance for some young and fringe players at Arsenal.

The likes of Charlie Patino and Marcelo Flores will be desperate to prove to the manager that he doesn’t need to sign Tielemans, while Albert Sambi Lokonga and Mohamed Elneny will also be keen to show the gaffer that they deserve a bigger role next season.

These next few weeks will be key for the midfielders vying for a first-team spot at Arsenal.
