Leeds United fans are concerned that Samu Saiz could leave the club.

Leeds United’s poor recent form continued on Tuesday night, as they were beaten 2-1 by Derby County at Elland Road.

Thomas Christiansen’s men have lost six of their last eight Championship games, and having dropped only four points in their first seven league games, it’s now just six points in the last eight.

The Whites are struggling right now, but one player who continues to impress despite the recent form is playmaker Samu Saiz, who joined the club from Spanish side Huesca over the summer.

Saiz, 26, has hit two goals and two assists in his last six games for Leeds, emerging as one of the top playmakers in the Championship, and his continued excellence – along with the struggles of his teammates – has led Leeds fans to believe that he could move on in January in search of better fortunes.

Ultimately, a move away from Elland Road in January, just months after arriving, seems unlikely, but if any Premier League club should be keeping an eye on his situation, it’s Newcastle United.

The Magpies have used fellow Spaniard Ayoze Perez as their chief playmaker this season, but his performances have frustrated fans for large spells of the campaign, with many believing that Rafael Benitez needs to bring in a more creative attacking midfielder.

Saiz fits the bill perfectly; only three players have created more chances in the Championship this season, with Saiz averaging 2.38 key passes per game, making the former Atletico Madrid talent one of the most creative midfielders in the second tier.

Adding him to a strong base of fellow Spaniards – such as Javier Manquillo, Jesus Gamez, Mikel Merino, Joselu and Perez himself – could be a smart move for Newcastle and Saiz himself, as being surrounded by his compatriots could aid his adjustment to life on Tyneside.

If Saiz continues to excel with Leeds, it’s only a matter of time before Premier League clubs start to take notice of his performances, and whether it’s with a view to bidding in January or next summer, Newcastle should be keeping close tabs on Saiz to become their playmaking maestro.
