Quite a lot of Celtic fans sent nice messages to Patryk Klimala on Friday.
The Polish striker confirmed on Twitter that he was quitting the Hoops for New York Red Bulls.
But let’s be honest, the 22-year-old was anything but a good signing for Celtic.
The Hoops shelled out £3.5 million to sign Klimala, who scored only three goals in 28 games across all competitions.
And yet, he has somehow proven successful as an investment.
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic could wind up receiving somewhere in the region of £5 million for the young marksman – £1.5 million more than what was originally reported.
And if that’s accurate then it has to be considered an absolute masterstroke by the suits – including departing chief executive Peter Lawwell – at Parkhead.
This time a few weeks ago, you would’ve been laughed at had you predicted Celtic would make a profit on Klimala this summer, but it appears that very well may be the case.
Twenty points behind new Premiership champions Rangers and having lost to them in the Scottish Cup last week, this season is about the small victories for those on the green side of the Old Firm divide.
And selling Klimala for a profit certainly represents a win for the club.
