Christian Pulisic is reportedly a target for Leeds as we close in on the final week of the summer window – but he may feel Leeds are beneath him. If Pulisic needed convincing, Sunday would surely have tempted him over a move to Leeds.
Pulisic, 23, is said to be “very, very open” to leaving Chelsea this summer. Captain of the United States, Pulisic will want to go into this season’s World Cup at the top of his game. If he is to do that, he will need plenty of game time.
But right now, he is not getting that. Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz are above Pulisic in the pecking order. He has played in all three of Chelsea’s Premier League games, but all three outings have come from the bench.
Reports state that Leeds are one of a number of clubs looking at Pulisic this summer. A move would make sense. Leeds have an American manager in Jesse Marsch, and two of his USMNT teammates in Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams.
But Pulisic will fancy himself as a Champions League player. Rightly so. There will be clubs in the Champions League that Pulisic improves. He may feel he is too good for Leeds. But Sunday will have gone some way to convince him.
Sunday would surely have tempted Pulisic over Leeds move
Leeds were excellent. Not only did they beat Chelsea, but they completely outplayed Thomas Tuchel’s side. Pulisic would have seen a side that gave their attackers plenty of chances and freedom, and got the ball forward quickly.
Regarded as America’s best-ever footballing product, he will have watched Adams and Aaronson sparkle. They were excellent in a side managed by Marsch, who said before the game Pulisic is someone “he would love to work with.”
Leeds are one of the clubs said to be chasing him and they could do with another attacking option. With Rodrigo starring up front, competition for Aaronson would be ideal. Pulisic might be tempted by a move, after Sunday.
