Tottenham Hotspur should make a move for Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer transfer window.
According to The Stoke Sentinel, Stoke City could sell Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer transfer window. It has been reported that Stoke would want a transfer fee of at least £12 million – that is how much they paid Inter Milan in the summer of 2015 to secure the services of Shaqiri.
Shaqiri is 25 years of age and is a brilliant winger, but his 2016-17 campaign at Stoke has been affected by injuries. The Switzerland international has been able to feature in only 14 Premier League matches this season, scoring three goals and created 27 chances in the process.
The 25-year-old, though, has proved himself in the Premier League. During the 2015-16 season, the former Bayern Munich winger scored three goals and created 50 chances in 27 league matches.
Injuries are an issue, but Tottenham would be wise to put in a bid for Shaqiri at the end of the season. If an offer of £12m is good enough for Stoke, then Spurs should make an attempt to sign him.
The former Inter winger is very talented and has a lot of potential which he could fulfil at Tottenham. The North London outfit may not have any need for another winger at the moment, but signing Shaqiri would add depth to their squad and also enhance competition among players.
Tottenham’s struggles in the Champions League and in the Europa League this season showed the need to have more quality players to compete with the best teams in Europe.
Shaqiri has experience of playing in the Champions League and of winning titles – he won the Swiss Super League with Basel, and the Bundesliga and the Champions League with Bayern in 2012-13.
Would Spurs be able to tempt Shaqiri? Of course. Living in London, fighting for the Premier League title and competing in the Champions League… What more could he want?
