Everton are in the market for a centre back this summer, and their search appears to be rooted in French football.
The Toffees have been linked with Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes, but have so far been unable to strike a deal with the Ligue 1 side.
French centre back Jean-Clair Todibo of Barcelona has been linked as a potential fallback option, but another option from French football is being touted.
Thiago Silva is a free agent this summer. The Brazilian’s Paris Saint-Germain contract ends later this month, and they have confirmed that he is leaving the club.
Unsurprisingly, he is now being linked with a reunion with Carlo Ancelotti. The Everton boss signed Silva for both AC Milan and PSG, so joining forces again would make sense.
Le10 Sport claim that Ancelotti has called the 35-year-old to gauge whether he would be interested in a move to Goodison Park, with Everton entering the race for his signature.
That report stated that Arsenal, AC Milan, Manchester United and Barcelona are also keen, meaning Everton face a battle despite being ‘especially’ interested.
Now, ex-Everton midfielder and Silva’s PSG teammate Idrissa Gueye has been quoted by RMC Sport as saying that he thinks Silva is a ‘very big player’.
Gueye added that he wanted Silva to stay because he is a ‘high class player’ with great experience, so he is sad to see him leave – and he could now head to Gueye’s former club if Ancelotti gets his way.
“Thiago Silva is a very big player, a very big defender who has experience. Would I have wanted him to stay? Of course. He is very useful for the team. We need players experience, high class players like that,” he added.
