Don Hutchison says in an ‘ideal world’ Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool would have wanted to sign a centre-back this summer, namely Evan Ndicka.
The former midfielder thinks that Liverpool should have pushed to secure the talents of the 24-year-old, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
In the end, Evan Ndicka did secure a summer transfer, from German side Eintracht Frankfurt to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.
It was obvious to all that Liverpool were going to refresh and revamp their entire midfield after last season’s troubles, even if the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho weren’t expected.
But the defence has also played a part in that decline, yet, no new faces were brought in to boost either the right-back, centre-back, or possibly the left-back department.
Nonetheless, when Hutchison was asked if Liverpool should have pushed for a centre-back this summer, he issued the following response.

“I think so,” said Hutchison. “I think, in an ideal world, I thought they were going to go for Evan Ndicka, who made a move (to Roma).”

The Liverpool of old
That stunning and dramatic win at St James’ Park last week could prove to be transformative in Liverpool’s season.
It has certainly given them a lift because, against free-scoring Aston Villa on Sunday, without Virgil gan Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, they brushed aside Unai Emery’s men by, not only securing three points, but a clean sheet to boot.
These early signs, although still very early, are pretty positive for the Anfield faithful because the Liverpool of old is coming through.
