Some Newcastle United fans on Twitter really aren’t keen on the idea of getting Henry Mauriss at the club.
The Telegraph reported on Friday that the United States-based tycoon was in ‘pole position’ to buy the club after Saudi Public Investment Fund pulled the plug on their £350 million takeover on Thursday.
They added that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley had already agreed a deal with the media figure – which was also going to be £350 million – and that the English businessman had seen proof of payment.
Fans of the St James’s Park side were distraught when the Saudi venture fell through, with the group pulling out over the lengthy delay in the Premier League greenlighting the venture.
But quite a few Magpies supporters aren’t all that keen on seeing Mauriss take over, it has to be said.
Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:
You can understand why Newcastle fans aren’t as excited about Mauriss as they were with the PIF.
First of all, much less is known about the American and there’s been little to no reporting on how much he is actually worth, whereas Mohammed bin Salman hails from a family worth in the region of £1.3 trillion [The Shields Gazette].
The more you know about somebody or something, the more comfortable you are and with Mauriss something of a mysterious figure, it’s hard to fault the fans’ skepticism.
