Arsenal defender Ben White has admitted to the club’s official website that he still loves Leeds United’s home ground.

Elland Road’s lasting impact

White spent a year with Leeds, when he helped them gain promotion back into the Premier League.

And his time with Marcelo Bielsa’s side left quite the impression on him.

Indeed, when White was asked by Arsenal’s media team what his favourite stadium was, he picked out Elland Road.

“I’d probably say a full Leeds stadium,” the £50 million central defender said (Metro).

“Obviously I played there two years ago. That was probably my first experience of a full stadium and a lively crowd.”

The one that got away?

Leeds actually tried to sign White on a permanent deal following their promotion, but could not reach Brighton’s asking price.

At that time Brighton wanted over £30 million for White, and Leeds were understandably reticent to pay so much money for a player with no Premier League experience.

They may be regretting that decision somewhat now, though, given how well he has adjusted to top level football.

White’s value rose significantly last season, which led to him earning a big money move to Arsenal.

The 23-year-old also forced his way into England’s Euro 2020 squad, after an excellent first season in the top flight.

And while Leeds did strengthen their defence with the signings of both Diego Llorente and Robin Koch, there may be a tinge of sadness that White isn’t playing at his favourite ground more often now.
