Jamie O’Hara has admitted that he would ‘pay someone’ to take Emerson Royal off Tottenham Hotspur’s hands.

The Brazil international was signed by Fabio Paratici during Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign as Spurs manager in the summer of 2021.

However, the former Barcelona right-back hasn’t proven himself a success in North London and last week he got sent off in a 3-1 defeat away to Arsenal for a silly, needless rake on Gabriel Martinelli.

The Gunners were only winning by one goal at the time of Emerson’s dismissal, adding to the frustration among Lilywhites’ supporters.

He was, as a result, suspended for Tottenham’s 1-0 victory away to Brighton & Hove Albion last night.

And despite not playing, O’Hara was still adamant that the player needs to go.

He told talkSPORT: “I would pay someone to take him of our hands. I ain’t got a lot in my bank but I’d give you £5m to get rid of this liability, because he is costing us every week.”

Problem is – and it doesn’t say much – but Emerson is still probably Tottenham’s best option for that role.

Matt Doherty deputised for the suspended Brazilian last night and did manage quite a decent performance it has to be said.

But clearly Antonio Conte prefers the South American defender, otherwise Doherty would’ve played a lot more regularly this season.

In other words, axing Emerson isn’t really an option, despite O’Hara dislike for the player.
