Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has admitted that he’d love to see his old club bring Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks to Elland Road.
Leeds could probably do with a quality back-up option to Kalvin Phillips this summer.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been missing Phillips in recent weeks and the Argentine coach has been forced to play centre-back Robin Koch in that midfield role instead.
Even last season, Pascal Struijk, who has dazzled in central defence this season, was filling in for Phillips toward the end of the campaign.
Winks hasn’t had a great season at Tottenham and had fallen way down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho.
According to The Mirror, Spurs will let the £50,000-a-week midfielder leave North London during the summer.
And Robinson has admitted that he’d love to see him in West Yorkshire next season and beyond.
He told Stadium Astro: “One player I would love to see at Leeds in the Kalvin Phillips role is Harry Winks. He’s not been given his opportunity at Spurs. I think he’s a fantastic footballer.
“A player of Harry Winks’s quality would really add something to that Leeds United side. He’s able to play in a more advanced role, but can do that Kalvin Phillips role when he’s not available to play. I’d love to see Harry Winks at Elland Road next season.”
With Oliver Skipp due back at Spurs this summer following a brilliant season-long loan at Norwich City, Winks might be on borrowed time.
Then again, the player himself probably wouldn’t be keen on the idea of joining Leeds, if we’re honest.
He’d love to work under Bielsa but, by the same token, he isn’t going to play regularly and therefore going from Tottenham to United makes very little sense.
