Jamie Carragher has shared that he was ‘talking’ about Diego Simeone possibly coming to Liverpool, as he told The Overlap.
The Anfield legend added that he would ‘love to see’ the Atletico Madrid manager take to the dugout of a Premier League side.
Given the two powers that rule Spanish football, Real Madrid and Barcelona, everything and everyone else is seen as an underdog.
The same applies to Atletico, who are the current La Liga champions, but they are set to lose that crown to their neighbours this season.
Nonetheless, when talking about Man United’s next manager, Carragher dropped this interesting response on Simeone.
On if Man United would ‘sit up’ if Simeone came in: “Yes, I think so. He has that stature,” said Carragher.
“Gary (Neville) talks about coming up against him. He has got that presence, hasn’t he?
“I was talking to someone last night actually about Simeone for Liverpool, talking about when Klopp would leave in a couple of years.
“I would love to see Simeone in the Premier League. To see how he plays. Is it because he’s up against Real Madrid and Barcelona, he is always the underdog. If he went to Manchester United and got as much money as anyone, would he play differently? I am not so sure.”

Liverpool have already come up against Simeone this season when Jurgen Klopp’s side dispatched them during the group stages of the Champions League.
The former Argentina midfielder, just like his playing days, did cause controversy by not shaking Klopp’s hand in Madrid.
That annoyed Klopp, as he told BT Sport after the game that he did that to ‘wind him up’ and he ‘didn’t like it’.
Whilst Simeone has overachieved on occasions during his career, his teams have proven to wind up the opposition and their fans right to the max.
That was also proven when his side knocked Manchester United out of the Champions League and they ensured the ball stayed in play for as little time as possible.
