Mateusz Bogusz has admitted that he would ‘like to stay in Spain’ after impressing on loan at UD Ibiza from Premier League outfit Leeds United, while speaking to Super Express.

The Poland U21 international was supposed to be a first-team player by now at Elland Road.

A handful of impressive performances during a pre-season tour Down Under in 2019 – and a subsequent first team debut in an EFL Cup clash with Stoke City a few weeks later – appeared to have paved the way for a regular place in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans for a man who followed Kiko Casilla to West Yorkshire nearly three years ago.

Flash forward to late-2022, however, and Bogusz looks further away than ever from the first-team picture these days, overtaken by the likes of Sam Greenwood and farmed out on loan for the second season in a row.

According to Polish publication Sportowe Fakty, Leeds are open to selling Bogusz – as long as they are permitted to include a £7 million buy-back clause as part of the deal.

And it seems that Bogusz would welcome the prospect of cutting ties with his parent club, having found a loving home – and regular minutes – on the sun-soaked sandy beaches of the Mediterranean.

Has Mateusz Bogusz played his last game for Leeds United?

“Honestly, I didn’t like it at Logrones (the club he played for on loan in 2020/21). We mainly defended on the pitch,” Bogusz explained.

“Ibiza is completely different. We play a lot here and want to keep the ball. It suits me. It suits my style. If I could, I would like to stay in Spain.”

Bogusz, who has produced three goals and one assist in ten matches for the Segunda outfit, has less than two years remaining on his contract at Leeds.

The mercurial Bielsa admitted to Leeds Live recently that he was sad to see Robbie Gotts, Bryce Hosannah and Jordan Stevens leave the club last summer, having failed to guarantee the highly-rated trio an opportunity at senior level.

A difficult decision may have to be made regarding Bogusz, too. The Polish play-maker has a taste for senior football these days and an U23 role at Leeds is unlikely to sate his appetite.
