John McGinn has claimed that he would have ‘laughed at you’ if you told him two years ago that Leon Bailey, Emi Buendia and Danny Ings were going to be his teammates at Aston Villa, as he told talkSPORT.

All three have joined Villa this summer after the £100 million sale of Jack Grealish to Manchester City.

Ings would be the more well-known player given that he has showcased his goalscoring talents in the Premier League before, whilst Buendia ripped it up in the Championship and spent one season in England’s top-flight last time out.

As for Bailey, he arrives from Germany and he will be hoping his speedy engine can sky-rocket Villa up the Premier League table next season.

Nonetheless, this is what McGinn had to say about his new Villa teammates.

“I feel we have strengthened our squad massively,” said McGinn.

“Signings like Leon Bailey, Danny Ings, Emi Buendia who, if you said to me two years ago they’d be my Villa teammates, I’d have probably laughed at you.”

A number of years ago, McGinn was preparing for life back in the Premier League after he scored the crucial goal that helped Villa earn promotion.

McGinn’s header against Derby County, and performance during that Championship play-off Wembley final, is one Villa fans will remember for a long time.

Under the ownership of Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens, Villa have made huge strides, both on and off the pitch.

And despite losing Grealish this summer, their target will still be to get into Europe.
