‘I’d give my left lung’: Some Arsenal fans beg Arteta to unleash £6m player tonight

Some Arsenal fans are calling on Mikel Arteta to recall Gabriel Martinelli to his first XI tonight.

The Gunners are gearing up to resume their Europa League campaign with a trip to Athens to face Olympiacos in the first leg of a last-16 clash.

Arteta’s side rode their luck a tad to beat Benfica in the previous round, needing a late goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to avoid elimination by away goals.

The Arsenal boss has used Martinelli rather sparingly since he returned from a long-term injury toward the end of 2020, with the Brazilian wonderkid, who cost the club £6 million in 2019, only managing a little over 300 minutes of senior football under the Spaniard this season across all competitions.

Martinelli, like Bukayo Saka, is a frightening talent though and fans of the Emirates Stadium club have seen countless examples of his promise over the past 18 months or so.

And some Arsenal supporters are calling on their manager to let the teenager loose against the Greeks tonight.
