Some Liverpool fans are reacting to the prospect of signing Federico Chiesa this summer.
The Italy international is a household name now after helping the Azzurri to a Euro 2020 title a little earlier this month.
Chiesa, who plays for Juventus on loan from Fiorentina, lit up the tournament with a series of dazzling displays from outside.
According to La Repubblica in Italy, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has identified him as a ‘perfect’ player for his 4-3-3 system, with the Premier League club seeing an £86 million offer knocked back.
Here’s how some fans of the Anfield side reacted to this report on Twitter:
Silly season?
This time of the year is called ‘silly season’ and it’s probably because of reasons like this.
Yes, Chiesa would be a fabulous addition by Liverpool but there’s just no way a club-record bid was lodged for the 23-year-old.
Remember, John Henry warned the Reds’ fanbase of limited finances as a knock-on effect to the coronavirus pandemic.
So the idea that Liverpool – who have already spent £36 million on Ibrahima Konate – have legitimately tried to break their transfer record, currently held by Virgil van Dijk at £75 million, is utterly laughable.
