Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Reds were offered Arsenal’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The transfer specialist revealed the news on his Here We Go podcast, and it’s certainly caused a stir among the Reds supporters on Twitter.

The Italian said: ‘He was offered to Liverpool too, you know that? Liverpool were looking for an opportunity and he was offered to Liverpool, but at the moment he’s not an option.’

Romano was discussing the out-of-favour Greece international’s situation at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta hasn’t given Sokratis a single minute of first-team football this season, hence why he was offered to a Premier League rival.

Of course, Jurgen Klopp has worked alongside the 32-year-old before at Borussia Dortmund, so he should know him well.

However, an ageing centre-back coming in, while prospects such as Rhys Williams are there to be played, wouldn’t make sense in our view.

Admittedly, things are nearing a desperate situation right now.

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho – two midfielders – started at centre-back against Southampton last time out, which pretty much sums it up.

However, in our view, there’s no need to panic buy a player in his thirties.

There are far greater benefits in nurturing the likes of Williams and Nathaniel Phillips, if we were to look towards the long-term.

Let’s see how the Liverpool fans on Twitter reacted to Romano’s interesting revelation…
