‘I’d be worried’: Thierry Henry makes claim about Chelsea star that could benefit Liverpool

Thierry Henry has stated that he would be ‘worried’ if Romelu Lukaku doesn’t start for Chelsea against Liverpool on Sunday in the Carabao Cup final, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+(22/02/22 at 9:55 pm).

Ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool locking horns at Wembley for the first piece of silverware of the domestic season, Lukaku has been a bit of a talking point.

After his seven touches during his side’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend, he was dropped to the bench for their Champions League clash against Lille on Tuesday night.

With Chelsea winning 2-0 in the first-leg of their knockout tie against the French champions, Thomas Tuchel didn’t even bring the Belgian onto the pitch.

With Liverpool the next stop for the London club, Henry is hoping that there would have been some discussion about Lukaku’s role this week, else he would be ‘worried’.

“Hopefully, he had a discussion with the boss and the case was that he wasn’t going to play today (v Lille),” said Henry.

“Then he’s going to train and get ready for the League Cup final. If they didn’t have that discussion, then I would be worried.

“You would like to think maybe at 2-0 or 1-0, he could come on, try to get into a rhythm and see if he could score a goal. That wasn’t the case.”

All in all, this situation might just benefit Liverpool because this isn’t exactly helping Tuchel’s plans going forward.

Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s forward players are flying, Tuchel’s most in-form player in the attacking third is Kai Havertz.

On one hand, the Reds backline might want to play against Lukaku because he is bang out of form.

On the other, if he doesn’t start at Wembley, then that would be the main talking point and, as a result, the limelight will be off the Liverpool players.

When Chelsea last played Liverpool – they recorded a 2-2 draw in the Premier League – and that was when Lukaku was dropped for his interview with Sky Italia, so perhaps that’s a sign that Tuchel is better off playing without his big-money summer signing.
